How to Use Kukai Wallet with InterPop NFTs

One of the common barriers to entry in stepping into the wild and wonderful world of NFTs is how to set up a wallet. While there are several great options available in the Tezos ecosystem, we’ve decided to use the browser-based Kukai Wallet across the spectrum of our products like MinterPop and InterPop Comics due to its user-friendly interface and its DirectAuth feature, which allows users to send/receive NFTs or tez (Tezos’ native cryptocurrency) using a Gmail address or Reddit/Twitter account.

Whether you’re a crypto savant or coming into the cryptosphere for the very first time, we thought we’d lay out a quick tutorial of how Kukai operates with our products and showcase just how easy it is to get started. By the time you’re finished here, you’ll be fully equipped with everything you need to explore all InterPop has to offer!

Step 1: Set up an account

Sounds easy enough, right? Well, it is. When you visit MinterPop or InterPop Comics, you’ll see a “Login” prompt in the upper-right hand corner of each respective website’s homepage. We’ll use InterPop Comics as an example. Whether you’re a new or existing user, after you click “Login,” you’ll be prompted to sign in using a Gmail or Twitter account.

If you’re a first-time user, this login will automatically set up a Kukai wallet that you can access directly at wallet.kukai.app using the same login method. You can see the balance of your tez (Tezos’ native cryptocurrency), see your purchased NFTs in your collection, even delegate your tez to a Tezos baker (if that sounds like space-talk, you can learn more about that here). Don’t worry. That’s not a requirement!

Step 2: Purchase an NFT

Now that you’ve set up your Kukai Wallet, you’re on your way to purchasing an NFT from MinterPop or InterPop Comics. But just like a leather wallet you got for the holidays, it’s not much good to anyone if there aren’t any funds in it! There are numerous exchanges that support Kukai and tez, and we recommend exploring them to determine which one is the best fit for you.

Once you have tez in your wallet, you’re all set to purchase the latest issue of our comics to unlock the power to participate in that issue’s vote, collect a limited-edition variant from one of our incredibly talented artists, or pick up our NFT releases of Emergents TCG promo cards and original artwork on Minterpop. At each NFTs listing page, you’ll see the item’s price listed in USD and tez. It’s important to note that all of our NFTs are also purchasable using a credit card if you prefer that method of payment. When you click on the USD price below our NFTs, you’ll be prompted to a checkout screen where you’ll fill in your credit card information just like you would on any other online retailer.

If you want to show off your fancy new crypto skills (and if you’ve made it this far into the tutorial, we should hope you do!) all you have to do is select the tez price, after which you’ll see the following prompt:

If you have enough tez in your wallet to make the purchase, it will be directly withdrawn from your wallet, and the NFT will appear in your NFT/Collectibles tap on Kukai’s dashboard page. If you’ve purchased a comic, as seen here, it will be readable in the My Collection page on the InterPop Comics site.

Step 3: Transfer/Trade/Sell an NFT

Here’s where things get really fun. Unlike most digital purchases, our NFTs create an opportunity for true digital ownership. That means that once you own one of our NFTs, you can do almost anything you want with it: You can sell it on a secondary marketplace like objkt.com which integrates directly with Kukai, you can swing a trade for another NFT, or even give it away and spread the joy of NFTs to a friend, relative, your mail carrier, literally anyone with a Gmail, Reddit, or Twitter account. We’re going to walk you through this last one to showcase just how easy it is to send an NFT using Kukai.

First, log in to Kukai, then navigate to the NFT/Collectibles tab and select the NFT you want to send. You’ll then see the NFTs thumbnail image and description, as seen on the NFT issue of #ZoeMG #1 here:

After you click “send,” you’ll be prompted with the screen below. Enter the quantity you want to send (in this case 1), and enter the wallet address, Gmail, Reddit, or Twitter handle, and confirm the transfer. That’s it! Even if the recipient doesn’t already have a Kukai wallet, the DirectAuth feature will automatically create one for the recipient. They can now log in to their wallet at wallet.kukai.app, view their NFTs, and get involved. Pretty snazzy!

Please note the “FEE” below the quantity field on the transfer. That refers to the gas cost the sender is required to pay to initiate the NFT transfer. Thankfully, Tezos has famously low gas costs (this transfer costs approximately 0.004132 USD at the time of writing) but it’s a good idea to remember to have enough tez in your wallet to cover the fee.

You’re all set! You’ve created a Kukai wallet, purchased an NFT, and successfully sent one yourself! Look at you! You’re a pro already. Now you have the basics to enter the frontier of NFTs with confidence, style, and grace. Go forth and conquer, InterPop fan.
